Peter Browne qualifies as an Accredited Mediator

Peter Browne FRICS a Director of Burley Browne has qualified as a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Accredited Mediator.

Accredited Mediator

The RICS have recently become an accredited provider member of the Civil Mediation Council and Peter is one of the first surveyors in Birmingham and among only a small group nationally to obtain this accreditation.

Mediation is a method of dispute resolution which is being strongly advocated by the Courts as a pre litigation method of dispute resolution or alternatively as part of the litigation process in order to help parties reach a settlement which is acceptable to both sides.

Generally mediation takes only one day and is a far quicker opportunity to resolve a dispute than litigation.  The parties usually share the costs of the day which are likely to be significantly less than prolonged litigation and in many cases if mediation has not been attempted prior to litigation then costs will not be awarded to either party.  The mediation process may also provide more certainty as the parties can agree a settlement between them, taking away the uncertainty of a win lose outcome which is quite often the case in litigation.

Peter Browne commented, “It is felt that mediation will become an important and increasingly adopted process in the current climate and Burley Browne are therefore extremely well placed to react to the potential increase in demand for qualified mediators”.

Any enquiries with regard to the appointment of an accredited RICS Mediator should be directed to Burley Browne the Birmingham office on 0121 633 3111.
